REDDING, Calif. - Redding Electric Utility (REU) recently hosted its first Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Workshop. Workshop attendees included utility professionals from Roseville Electric, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) and Turlock Irrigation District. REU’s Customer Programs Supervisor, David Jackson and his colleagues delved into the key benefits of energy storage along with the on-going benefits
- Mitigates or reduces need for additional peak generation
- Avoids or defers transmission & distribution system upgrades
- Improves grid efficiency (system load factor) from the generator to the consumer
- Improves system integration of wind and solar resources
- Reduces generator source fuel consumption
- Reduces CO2 and NOx emissions during off-peak
- And TES projects create immediate, local green-collar jobs
