Anaheim Business Signs on with Ice Energy to Reduce Electricity Bill
Ice Bear® Systems at SI Manufacturing will Take Advantage of Anaheim Public Utilities Incentive Program

May 16, 2007 Today at the EcoBuild America conference Ice Energy® announced a contract to deploy multiple Ice Bear systems to reduce peak demand and electricity costs at SI Manufacturing’s Anaheim facility. The Ice Bear rollout at SI is part of a pioneering peak shifting incentive program from Anaheim Public Utilities (APU). Improving both the reliability and sustainability of the power grid, Ice Energy’s turnkey Ice Bear product delivers superior cooling performance while shifting electricity used by air conditioners to off-peak hours. SI Manufacturing designs and manufactures a wide range of industrial, aerospace and military products and custom electronic power supplies.

“As a manufacturing company in the southern California region we are acutely aware of the energy challenge associated with summer’s high temperatures,” said James Reed, President of SI Manufacturing. “Our work with Anaheim Public Utilities and Ice Energy will enable us to capture savings on our electricity bills and contribute to the statewide solution to the peak power problem.”

Under the terms of APU’s peak shifting incentive program, Anaheim businesses can receive a rebate covering the costs and installation of the Ice Bear products as well as qualify for a special Time-of-Use electricity rate that strongly encourages peak demand reduction in light commercial and industrial buildings. SI Manufacturing also expects to generate savings from the special rate through time-dependent efficiency and demand reduction measures associated with its ovens and other appliances. “Ice Energy is proud to be a cornerstone of Anaheim’s groundbreaking efforts to combat the growing peak electricity problem,” said Frank Ramirez CEO of Ice Energy. “We look forward to continuing to support SI Manufacturing, Anaheim Public Utilities and other organizations across the country in improving the reliability, sustainability and cost of the power that our buildings consume.”

Each Ice Bear module will integrate seamlessly with SI Manufacturing’s existing refrigerant-based rooftop air conditioners to deliver 7.5 tons of cooling using only 300 watts of daytime power. Cooling 14,600 square feet at SI Manufacturing’s Anaheim facility, the five Ice Bear units will shift electricity consumed by the building’s air conditioning system to off-peak hours when power is cleaner and more efficiently delivered. Ice Energy estimates that SI Manufacturing’s five Ice Bear units will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 163 tons and nitrogen oxide emissions by 443 pounds over the next ten years, the equivalent of removing between 4 and 5 cars from the road.

“Air conditioning is the single largest contributor to summer’s peak demand on the electricity grid. Through its implementation of the Ice Bear technology, SI Manufacturing established itself as a leader in Anaheim’s effort to reduce peak energy usage and improve our environmental footprint,” said Marcie Edwards, general manager of Anaheim Public Utilities.

Ice Energy is currently addressing peak demand issues at fifteen municipalities in the state of California as well as utilities and organizations in grid constrained regions nationwide.

About Ice Energy, Inc.:
Ice Energy is an energy technology company focused on energy storage and advanced cooling and refrigeration products and technologies. The company manufactures and markets a new Ice Storage Air Conditioner (ISAC) product line for residential and commercial applications that addresses the increasing demand for electricity. Ice Energy’s products shift the largest component of residential and commercial peak demand -- air conditioning -- from expensive “on-peak” times of the day to “off-peak” periods, when energy is less expensive and less polluting. Recently approved as an optional compliance measure for California’s Title 24 building energy efficiency standards, the Ice Bear system provides superior cooling comfort while significantly reducing the cost of energy.
